Sylhet Osmani International Airport is set to resume international operations as flydubai (FZ, Dubai Int'l) had secured approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to commence flights, according to a report by http://www.ch-aviation.com. “We have taken the necessary preparations to start direct flight operations on March 18," Masum Mia, flydubai's Sylhet station manager said.  "In the first three months, flights will run from Sylhet to Dubai Int'l, Doha Hamad Int'l in Qatar, and Saudi Arabia for five days a week, and later for seven days a week." According to airport manager, Hafiz Ahmed, the launch will follow the completion of various upgrade works currently being done to, among others, the runway. Other prospective foreign carriers reportedly keen to serve the city include Air Arabia (G9, Sharjah) and India's Jet Airways (9W, Mumbai Int'l). For its part, the UAE-based LCC had previously attempted to serve Sylhet in April 2015 via a codeshare agreement with Bangladeshi carrier Regent Airways (RX, Dhaka).  However, the service was cancelled a day after its launch after Biman Bangladesh Airlines refused to provide ground handling services. Though it is Bangladesh's third-largest gateway, Sylhet only sees regular passenger services from Dhaka with service undertaken by three different carriers: Biman Bangladesh, NovoAir, and US-Bangla Airlines.-Asfar  ....

Investigation into Kim’s death impartial: Malaysian diplomat

The investigation into the death of half-brother of North Korea's ruler is being conducted in an impartial manner. Malaysia's ambassador to Pyongyang Mohamad Nizan Mohamad claimed this on Tuesday rejecting accusations from the North Korea that the probe was politically tinged, reports AP. Mohamad Nizan Mohamad spoke in China's capital, Beijing, while in transit to Malaysia to where he was recalled following the death last week in the Southeast Asian nation of Kim Jong Nam. Kim appeared to be poisoned at Kuala Lumpur's international airport and police have so far arrested four people carrying identity documents from North Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. Those arrested include two women who were allegedly seen approaching Kim on Feb. 13 as he stood at a ticketing kiosk at the budget terminal of the Kuala Lumpur airport. North Korea's ambassador to Malaysia on Monday denounced the country's investigation into Kim's death, calling it politically motivated and demanding a joint probe. Malaysia's foreign ministry responded that the ambassador's comments were "culled from delusions, lies and half-truths." Malaysian Ambassador Mohamad said the country's investigators were proceeding in a professional manner and would "be very objective and fair to everybody." "I think the investigation is still ongoing, so just wait and see for that. And we can assure you of the impartiality of the investigation itself because there is no reason for us to be sided with anybody," Mohamad said. The attack took on added political dimensions when Malaysia refused demands by North Korean diplomats to turn over Kim's body and proceeded with at least one autopsy over the diplomats' objections. North Korean ambassador to Malaysia Kang Chol told reporters Monday that Malaysia was working in collusion with South Korea as Seoul tries to deflect attention from its own months-long political crisis. Police "pinned the suspicion on us, and targeted the investigation against us," Kang said. Kang referred to the dead man as "Kim Chol," the name on the passport found with Kim Jong Nam.....

Philippine bus crash: Death toll climbs to 15

The death toll went up to 15 from a bus crash in the Philippines and could climb further as many of the nearly 50 others who were hurt in the accident are in serious condition. Most of the dead and injured were college students on the way to a camping trip on Monday when the brakes on their chartered bus apparently failed on a steep downhill road. The out-of-control bus then smashed into an electric post, shearing off most of its roof. Berlito Bati Jr., a disaster-response officer in Tanay town in Rizal province east of Manila, where the accident happened, said the dead included the driver and a professor. He said the latest victim died late Monday. There were 62 people on board, although bus manifest listed only 58, Bati said. The impact of the crash was so strong it ripped off a large chunk of the roof of the bus and scattered the victims' belongings, including a stuffed toy and shoes. The students, mostly taking computer courses, were less than 30 minutes from their destination when the crash occurred, he said. Some of the survivors said they smelled burning rubber before the brakes of the bus apparently failed. Some students screamed in panic as the bus went out of control. On Tuesday morning, a priest blessed the bus and the site of the accident and led relatives of the dead in prayers. The bus was one of several vehicles transporting hundreds of college students to a camping resort when the accident happened in Tanay, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Manila.....
