Pound remains higher as final Brexit vote looms

The British pound remains higher from Monday against most major currencies as the House of Lords begins debating the Article 50 bill on Tuesday over the Brexit. If some amendments are called for, the pound is expected to come under pressure as a cloud of uncertainty once again hovers over the triggering of Article 50, and it may not happen by the end of March as Theresa may has promised, reports Investing.com. The main sticking point at the moment for the House of Lords is the protection of EU citizens currently in the UK after the country breaks with the EU. "The Article 50 debate in the Lords could be more interesting than expected. It does seem that there is a bit more of a push for amendments," said Societe Generale FX strategist Alvin Tan. “The regularity of such updates would be the most interesting element for currency markets”, he added. Former British Prime minister Tony Blair also caused some volatility in the currency markets while trying to rally support from the UK public on the possibility that Britain could still remain in the EU. He noted in a speech that the public was misled about the deal and had they known what they know now, the result may be different, “People voted without knowledge of the true terms of Brexit. As these terms become clear, it is their right to change their mind. Our mission is to persuade them to do so,” Blair said.....

Trump\'s revised travel ban will target same countries

President Trump's revised immigration order will reportedly include the same countries targeted in the initial order, which barred refugees and people from seven predominately Muslim countries from entering the US, the Associated Press reported. The president's new order, expected to be released this week, will not include people who already have a visa to travel to the U.S. It will also exempt people who hold green cards and who are dual citizens of the U.S. and one of the targeted countries. The new order will no longer tell authorities to specifically single out and reject Syrian refugees. The revised order could change before it is signed by the president, the AP noted. The president issued his initial travel ban late last month. That order barred people from seven majority-Muslim countries -- Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and Libya -- from entering the U.S. for 90 days; halted U.S. refugee resettlement for 120 days; and suspended Syrian refugees indefinitely. Trump faced immediate backlash after the implementation of the order, with demonstrators gathering across the country to protest the travel ban and lawmakers speaking out against it. Trump and his team strongly denied the order amounted to a ban on Muslims. Several groups filed lawsuits against the administration, before a federal judge in Seattle temporarily blocked the ban. A San Francisco based appeals court rejected the administration's request earlier this month to lift a nationwide hold on the initial travel ban. Trump said during a news conference last Thursday he would be signing a revised travel ban "toward the beginning or middle" of next week.-Asfar  ....
