The market is known as 'Bangla Market' as it is frequented mostly by Bangladeshi workers living in Kuala Lumpur. A Bangladeshi businessman in the area said the number of detained Bangladeshis would be 50 to 60, including some women. Malaysian departments of immigration and customs and Kula Lumpur City Corporation jointly conducted the raid for around two and a half hours from 12pm on Saturday. Kota Roya Bangladeshi Traders' Association President Rashed Badal told the news agency that the authorities checked whether the businesses at the market were following the laws. The detainees did not have the necessary enforcement card (e-card) or permits for temporary residence or work, authorities said. Painkiller in high demand among Rajshahi addicts

RAJSHAHI, Aug 6: A painkilling medicine is now being widely abused by a section of drug addicts in Rajshahi. The medicine O-Morphon is used in treatment of diseases like cancer, arthritis and joint-pain. The drug is available both in ampoules and as tablets. Each 10 milligram tablet contains 10mg Oxymorphone Hydrochloride USP while an ampoule also contains the same amount of the substance. Physicians in Rajshahi told the FE that many medicines used for treatment of cough, vitamin deficiency and as pain killers were being taken by drug addicts. Even the drug Buprinor Pine used for treatment of horse diseases is also in high demand among the addicts. Abul Bashar Paltu, Executive Director of an NGO (non-government organisation) working with the drug addicts in Rajshahi said the addicts take different types of drugs. In recent times, the addicts turned to O-Morphon. The drug is easily available. The retail price of a tablet is Taka 20.00 but now a piece of the same is being sold at Taka 120 to 150. He further said Phensidyl is a very good quality expectorant and used to cure cough and cold-related diseases. But, it is also being widely abused by the addicts and now pharmacists are barred from selling the item. An increased abuse of the Morphon might also draw the attention of the Drug Administration and ultimately it might be banned like Phensidyl leading to sufferings of cancer patients and those suffering from extreme pain. Dr. Zahangir Alam, Medicine Specialist working at Premtali Health Complex in Godagari, said the Morphon which is also available under the brand name Morphine ( Pathedine), is a highly-potential pain reliever. If it is used as a drug by the addicts, it will damage their nervous system, kidney and stomach. The only way to get relief from the abuse of the drug is to sell the drug to the genuine patients as prescribed by doctors. He also called for creating public awareness, especially among the new generation, about risks of the drug abuse. When contacted, the head office of the Ziska Pharma in Dhaka, the company that produced the O-Morphon told the FE that production of the drug had remained stopped over the past few months for lack of raw materials. bwjs123@gmail.com....
