Huge Yaba tablets seized in Jessore
Detectives arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 4000 pieces of Yaba tablets from in front of NavaranFajilatunnesaGirlsCollege in Sharsha upazila under Jessore on Tuesday night. The arrestees were identified as Monir Hossain, 25, son of Babar Ali, a resident of Alamnagar village in Sadar upazila and Rana Sheikh, 26, son of Babu Sheikh, a resident of Shangkarpur area in Jessore town, reports UNB. Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a motorcycle carrying the duo around 8.30pm, said Emaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Police. The law enforcers recovered 4000 pieces Yaba tablets after searching their bodies and arrested them. A case was filed. ....

A former officer of Sonali Bank Limited was found dead at Ghurulia-Uttarpara in Sadar upazila of in Jessore district on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Rezaul Islam, 50, a former officer of Jessore corporate branch of Sonali Bank and son of Anar Ali of Hasimpur village in Sadar upazila of the district, reports UNB. Sheikh Ilias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said locals spotted the body of Rezaul in Ghurulia area around 8:30pm and informed police. Later, the law enforcers recovered the body that bored chopping marks in the head and sent it to Jessore General Hospital for autopsy. Police also recovered a motorcycle and two blank cheques of Sonali Bank from the spot. Police said the miscreants might have hacked him to death with sharp weapons.....

At least seven people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Boiratola Bazar in Jhenidah Sadar upazila on Tuesday night. Kabir Hossain, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, said two groups of villagers -- one led by Jahangir Alam and the other by Abdul Hadi -- had been at loggerheads over establishing dominance at Bhagabannagar village. As a sequel to the problem, supporters of both the groups got locked into a clash with sharp weapons and other locally-made lethal arms around 7.30pm, leaving at least seven people injured from both sides. Informed, police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital. ....

A man was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between two pickup vans at Samashpur on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Jamal Hossain, 55, a resident of Kalipara, Pirojpur, according to UNB report. Golam Morshed Talukder, in-charge of Hasara highway police camp, said the accident occurred around 1:15am when a Pirojpur-bound pickup collided with another pickup, leaving Jamal dead on the spot and three others injured. The countrywide indefinite transport strike, enforced by Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, protesting the life term imprisonment of a bus driver in a case filed for a road accident that killed five people, including noted filmmaker Tareque Masud and cinematographer Mishuk Munier, entered the second day on Wednesday. In Dhaka city, no inter-district bus left Gabtoli, Mohakhali or Sayedabad bus terminals in the morning while very few buses were seen plying the road throughout the city. The commuters, especially the SSC examinees, suffered badly in the morning for lack of adequate public transports. They complained that rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers charged them excessive fares, taking advantage of the situation. Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation went on the strike on Tuesday morning protesting court verdicts that sentenced a driver to death and another to life imprisonment. Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, said they will continue the strike until the government takes any step to ensure 'justice' to their fellowmen.....
